Quick Tips for your Inspection!
Don’t wait until finding a buyer to book your inspection! Not every vehicle passes on the first inspection. Always leave time for potential rectification measures. Having your Safety Certificate ready before a buyer views the car is a massive negotiation helper. It proves the car is safe, shows you are a transparent seller, and prevents buyers from trying to “knock off $500” for repairs they think it might need.
Want to pass your Safety Certificate inspection on the first go? Some cars unnecessarily fail on “the small stuff.” Following these simple tips can save you from a re-inspection.
The 10-Minute “DIY Pre-Check” – Before I arrive, do a quick walk-around and check these items:
- Check Every Light: Headlights (high/low beam), indicators, tail/brake lights, and number plate lights.
- Wiper Blades: If they are split, streaking, or noisy, replace them.
- Tyre Tread: Check your tyres for wear. In QLD, you need a minimum of 1.5mm of tread across the surface. Don’t forget to inflate your spare tyre too!
- Dashboard Lights: If your “Check Engine,” “ABS,” or “Airbag” light stays on after the car starts, it is an automatic fail.
- Oil Leaks: Does your vehicle leave oil drips on your driveway? An oil leak will cause your vehicle to fail. If necissary, have any leaks rectified pror to inspection.
- Windscreen Chips: Small chips can often be repaired quickly and cheaply. If a crack is larger than 16mm or in the driver’s line of sight, it will likely need attention.
